What is crawl budget and does my small site have a problem?

Crawl budget is how much of your site a search engine will fetch in a given period. For a small business site it is almost never the constraint:

  • It matters at scale - tens of thousands of URLs, not the thirty pages most small businesses have.
  • Waste is the real issue - filtered URLs, session parameters and duplicate paths can consume crawling on pages you do not care about.
  • A clean sitemap helps more than any tweak - it tells the crawler what you actually want indexed.

If your pages are not appearing, the cause is far more likely to be quality, indexing rules or duplication than crawl budget.
