What are the DISP membership levels?

The Defence Industry Security Program has 4 membership levels, each aligned to an Australian Government security classification — the level determines what information your business is accredited to handle:

  • Entry Level — OFFICIAL and OFFICIAL: Sensitive
  • Level 1 — PROTECTED
  • Level 2 — SECRET
  • Level 3 — TOP SECRET

Levels are assessed across 4 security domains — governance, personnel, physical, and ICT & cyber — and an entity nominates the level it needs per domain when applying. Most small businesses entering the defence supply chain need Entry Level, which covers unclassified-but-sensitive material; one limitation is that Entry Level members cannot sponsor security clearances. Higher levels require justification, matching personnel clearances and progressively stronger physical and ICT controls. Apply for the level your contracts actually require, not the highest you can imagine needing — suitability is assessed against the level you nominate.
