Should my business use a catch-all email address?

A catch-all accepts mail to any address at your domain, including ones that were never created. It is convenient and it costs you:

• It accepts everything - including the guessed and harvested addresses that would otherwise bounce.
• It hides typos rather than surfacing them - a customer writing to the wrong address never learns they got it wrong.
• It attracts volume - spammers guess addresses precisely because catch-alls answer.
• It costs you signal - bounces to non-existent addresses are how you learn a list is stale.

Create the handful of addresses you actually use and let the rest bounce. Add an alias when you need one.
