What is a registrar lock (and the 60-day transfer lock)?

A registrar lock is a setting on your domain that blocks it from being transferred to another registrar until you deliberately unlock it. There is also a separate 60-day lock that applies automatically after certain changes:

• The standard lock - usually on by default; it stops an unauthorised transfer request from succeeding, so a hijacker cannot quietly move your domain away.
• The 60-day lock - many registrars block a domain from transferring for 60 days after it is newly registered or after a change of registrant details, to deter theft.
• When you unlock - only when you genuinely intend to move registrars; do it, complete the transfer, and the new registrar locks it again.

Leave the lock on as your normal state - it is friction only when you are deliberately moving the domain, and a barrier every other day.
