Is Microsoft 365 backed up by Microsoft?

Microsoft keeps the service running; keeping your data recoverable is a different job, and the split surprises people:

• Microsoft protects the platform - redundancy, uptime, and recovery from their own failures.
• Retention is short and rule-bound - deleted-item and retention windows are measured in days to a few months, not years.
• Your mistakes are yours - a deleted mailbox, a departed staff member’s account, or a mass deletion is not automatically recoverable once the window passes.

The same reasoning applies to Google Workspace and to your accounting platform. Check the retention window before you need it.
