What is an MSP?
A managed service provider runs some or all of another organisation’s IT for an ongoing fee:
- Ongoing, not project-based - patching, backups, monitoring, support, usually for a monthly amount per seat or per site.
- They carry the client’s risk - which is why a client breach becomes the MSP’s problem too.
- Security reporting is a differentiator - many MSPs monitor uptime and patching but cannot show a client their external security posture.
If you already provide the maintenance, external security scanning is the evidence that the maintenance is working.
